Some of the trees in August around here
get a jump-start on the season
They drop their golden blades
on grass that still requires twice-a-fortnight mowing
They don’t get the notice
that their cousins in October get
but it’s a portent of things to come
It’s as if they are heralding a greater, later event
A glory that is
yet to be
set to be
